I was ambivalent about posting this because I know it will make some people cringe, but decided to go for it, anyway.
I love my Electra beach cruiser 7D, but I don't like cow horn handlebars. So I put 5" rise handlebars on it. However, cruisers are usually designed to take cow horns. That put the new bars too far away from me so I reversed the quill stem. Also put ergonomic grips on it, shortened the ridiculously long cables to tidy it up, and swapped the twist shifter for a top mount trigger shifter. I now have a surprisingly comfortable cruiser. Yes, I'm aware that cruisers need longer than standard gear shift cables, and longer than standard chains, but it's worth it.
