That LG will work for sure, don't know anything about DVI TBH.
What intrigues me more is, how do you know what you're typing at the moment?
That's impressive

Are you sure it was the back?
If it had a manual push it switch, solder coming undone causes a burning smell.

Best look to the future and buy something like a AOC 22" F22+.

Make sure the new monitor and the old pc use the same connection! This is not always the case with older pcs ime.
Why not buy a second hand monitor just now, your new pc will come with one, the difference in cost without one is negligent.

DVI is (IIRC) digital video interface, it means that the signal stays digital all the way through, rather than going analogue. If you have a DVI output from your PC (unlikely from 2002) then that will be better quality. If you want it, you can get relatively cheap video cards with DVI outputs but it's not necessary.

That LG monitor should work through VGA and LG are, generalising, good kit.

The point I was making was that in a year or two that DVI slot might come in useful as might HDCP.
So buy VGA + DVI.

The 3 year warranty covers risk.
