Montague bikes

Does anyone have one of the newer Montague bikes ? I've considered getting one, but haven't been able to see them in person. My concerns mostly have to do with durability and corrosion resistance. Components are all standard and easily replaced if I don't like something.

I was thinking of getting one. A full size folder as I had seen one being ridden on my commute one day and it looked pretty smart.
In the end I went for a Tern (of which I don't regret). Though still have a look at them online every now and then. What model are you looking at?

Watch out for clones - similar fold, but I would imagine inferior.

As said above, watch out for clones. I've not examined a recent montague, but I'd suggest it's worth carefully 'wobbling' the folding mechanism to see if it has any movement and try to ascertain if it's likely to wear, which could lead to movement.
I have two of the 90's Rudge Montague bikes, and the design (with the seat-tube-within a seat tube) is superb, because along with the quick-release clamps it gives a rigid bike that couldn't collapse whilst you are riding (well.... no more likely than any other welded steel frame bike)

Had one of the tube within a tube Montague's (Schwinn) years ago. Problem was that with some miles the clamps become unable to keep the tubes from rotating a half inch or so, not at all dangerous but drove me nuts. There's also Flatbike, which I believe is a Montague clone and I'll steer clear. Looking at the Allston or the Navigator.

I always liked the look of them, but dismissed them for commuting in England.

As the front wheel has to come off to fold, I didn't fancy doing that on a freezing cold February morning and getting my hands cold and dirty.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of front wheel removal for commuting, but I don't commute. This thing would be locked up outside on store and restaurant runs as well. Storage in a very tiny living space is the current issue. If I need to fly or take the train that's what the Bromptons are for.
