The Quays is a really nice place to cycle round. @Potsy, you know you can get there via the Bridgwater canal?

We should have a Manchester cycle thread.

These of use to anyone?

I'd be surprised if they get 1/8th of that done for a mil.

Most of it is already there to be honest.

If you used to go on Sustrans mapping the bit along the river (Erie basin) from Old Trafford to Deansgate used to be shown as a cycle route. It is why I started using it to commute into Manchester now and then whilst on the hybrid. It means that 90% of my journey to work can be done off road if I want.

I recall looking on sustrans mapping a short while ago and the cycle route had been removed.

Something funny going on to fudge the numbers by the council?

Its ok doing cycle lanes in manchester city centre, but they forget that you have to get there in the first place, some of the roads on the outskirts of manchester are shocking, its hard work just to ride in a straight line

Sorry to be pedantic here but these lanes are in Salford, not Manchester hence why north Manchester routes aren't being improved as part of this work. And yes, there's far more to MediaCity and Salford Quays than the BBC, e.g. The Landing, The Greenhouse, ITV imminently on the Trafford side, the Lowry Outlet Mall, increasing numbers of restuarants etc. Plus, the media department of Salford University is now at MediaCity so students will need to get between the two campuses.

Harry Ramsdens at the top of the Lowry in the food court then in to that sweet shop up there :hyper: gorgeous. I like the walk from Old Trafford down over the bridge to the Lowry especially on a nice sunny day. Would deffinatly be a nice place to cycle but a bit far to take me bike.
