I normally commute between 8 and 9:30am to central London but today I had to leave at 7am for 8am start, do you find there are more kn0bs out there pre 8am?
Taxi wants to overtake me on the bus lane when there is clearly no room. WVM overtook me on a pinch point at speed just to get stuck in front of another car a few cars ahead! Overtook him and never sam him again:thumbsup:
A moped rider using the cycle lane in Princess street stopped on the ASL on the right hand side just to turn left and cut in front of me! FFS:angry:
Rant over, hope you had a nice commute this morning.

I normally commute between 8 and 9:30 but I haven't had this much hassle since I started commuting about 4 months ago.

No way!! I leave for work every morning at around 6.40 and there are relatively few knobs at all. I would say that 90% of my "incidents" occur on the ride home at 4pm.

Still at that time in Manchester there is practically no traffic so there is plenty of room and people are more patient.

Also the worst part of my commute goes through a very ethnically diverse part of North Manchester where how do I put it, peoples common sense and knowledge of the highway code leaves a lot to be desired. At that time in the morning the place is completely and utterly dead, not a soul to be seen!!

LOL, normal London traffic to me. Best just to relax and anticipate. That way you get to feel superior and good about your abilities, instead of wound up and irritated.

I find it is usually a little better the earlier I commute. This morning was very quiet. All road users were considerate and safe, just as it should be

There were a few peds that seemed to suddenly appear out of the fog though.

Nope.

I find that "knob's" are inherently lazy and lay in bed too late, so tend to catch the last bit of the crush hour (proving their own knobworthyness)

for me... the later, the nastier. I think you just had a bad day. (it's the whols (9/11 thing!!!).

Monday will be much better

I too find the "knobs" are out on the way home. I come in pre 8am, and normally have a good ride (Crystal Palace -> Brixton -> Lambeth Bridge -> Marylebone). It's the journey home where I get pushed around, splatted, cut up, squeezed and generally harassed. My only morning incident since May, when I started, has been a dog running into the street. All my probs have been on the way home.

LOL that is like my experience, the only hassle I have in the morning is the neighbourhood dog who is let out to poo and doesn't like cyclists. However I found after I got off my bike and chased him around spraying water at him he has been strangely absent from my route

Only differences I perceive in my daily commute are between 'commuter' traffic (aiming itself ALONG my route into / out of town) and 'local' traffic (normally doing a SMIDSY dart from side turnings, driving 50ft, then swinging off into a similar turning on the opposite side).

Commuter traffic is reasonably predictable and follows the first two rules of the moton:
  • You MUST overtake the cyclist.
  • First one to the back of the queuing traffic WINS. (Extra points for a photo finish).

Local traffic is a law to itself. As soon as I see one pull out, I hang well back, as the sudden stop for the shops / dart across traffic / slam on anchors / etc is only ever a few moments away.

I find my commute more pleasant very early in the morning (by that I mean between 5am and 6am), although even then you have to keep your eyes open and be ready for a close encounter with a kn0b. London's full of them, no matter what time you choose to cycle.

Beautiful this morning, left at 06:30 and all going well until 3 Reliance prison vans decided to go for the same gap to get past me, don't think the 2 Transit van drivers coming the other way were best pleased.

Apart from that it was 20 miles of trouble-free, autumn-crisp, blue skied bliss.

(and no i don't do all of that distance every day)
