The figures don't seem to add up to me

21% increase for slightly less road worthy vehicles ? seems very high. Does anyone know what the current percentage is for accidents caused by vehicle defects.

On the subject of major changes to our road laws, no one seems to be interested in the 25% speed increase proposed for HGVs on single carriageway roads, I would of thought that to be a touch more worrying for us cyclists than the MOT thing

Not sure about more but worrying. Also the increased size of the things. I worry about all of these for all road users. We've had a good run of improving casualty figures, perhaps it's made our lords and masters at Westminster complacent.

As stated earlier, what are failing cars actually failing on, and are those faults genuine, given the more aggressive MOT stations ability to fail things with ease and therefor make more money.
I NEVER take my car to a station that does normal work as well.
I havnt had a car fail the MOT in, crikey, maybe 10 years or more. Why ? because i take it to a MOT ONLY station.

My brother, who had cars of similar age as mine, took his to 'normal' garages...and was always failing the MOT. Would he listen, noooo.

Personally, i'd rather pay once a year and know the car's safe. i mean c'mon, you'd save £27 a year, its hardly earth shattering if it preserves the safety of cars...and everyone around them.

Considering our governments are all about generating money (cynical mode on) , i'm surprised they're even considering it.

My car failed its MOT for ,,,, you will never Guess ,,,, i was gob smacked ,,,, The wrong type of number plate !!!!! i have number plates on that have the St George Cross flag to one side instead of the European union stars and it i had to go and have new ones made to pass the MOT,, strange enough i notice cars in Wales are allowed to the the Welsh flag on their number plates (and good one them to be proud) so whats the story with the English flag .

Scrap the joke of a MOT and replace with it with a proper safety test.

How long ago was this? They have been legal for some time now, 2009 I think.

It was March 2010, made me buy new ones and let me use double sided tape to stick them on top of the ones i had on, passed the MOT and then watched as i pulled them off and drove away .

Right or wrong , that aint gona save any lives.

I worked in the Philippines for a cpl of years and there is no MOT , and the death traps on the road were frightening , so a good safety MOT here is a good thing silly things need getting rid of.
