I've just looked at Metcheck and the temperatures DURING THE DAY don't get above 0 and some days the top temperature is -4 for the next week here!!!

Metcheck is quite worrying. On the left side there is an option to look at the 2 week forecast. This weather is so un-British. We would typically get a cold snap, some snow and then quickly slush. This seems to be going on for ages. I see it is more snow again last night and the roads outside (city centre) are white again.

And yesterday Metcheck was showing the following week (8-14 days) as creeping above zero, whereas its now changed it to being below zero again.... I wish someone could give me an indication of how long this trend was likely to continue!!!!

I'm off to buy a cheap tyre from Decathlon today and stick it on a spare wheel......, and bring the Turbo into use this week ;). My wife's non too happy if I try and ride - "it's not you, it's the idiots...."

The daytime temps are a worry, as nothing will defrost....

Tyre bought and fitted, sitting in the Turbo.....just need to unlock the bike off the wall and swap over wheels........boring.....gonna die of boredom on the Turbo.

Main roads appear OK, but it was -2 at 11am ;) on the way to Decathlon. I'll drive for a couple of days and see how the roads are.

It's snowing again here. Looks like I'll be driving to work tomorrow.

Just checked the forecast and with the wind chill it's not going to get above freezing for the forseeable future. Throw in some rain and snow and I think we'll be in for some dicy conditions.

Deterministic medium range forecasts are all saying this weather is set to continue beyond the end of the model run (about 2 weeks). I don't know what the long range forecasts are, but long range forecasts are pretty unreliable and can only really give you a rough indication of what is going on and sometimes those can be miles out.

It is not entirely understood what is going on above our heads and a lot of the time it is educated guess work. The shorter range forecasts are more reliable because the different runs don't deviate that much, so it is assumed that the atmosphere would behave similarly.

If you were to ask a meteorologist how long this weather is going to last, they probably wouldn't give you an answer with any certainty. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

The snow is actually great for MTBing on; it fell wet so it's nice and crunchy now it has frozen. However, cars have polished it everywhere on the roads and I don't fancy coating my MTB in salt again once I get onto the main routes, so the car has been hauled up onto the main road where I can get it out easily tomorrow.

Our road is basically an ice rink, not sure what to take for the first day back on the tread mill.....car or MTB ????
Went for a drive up in the hills this weekend and had to turn back twice because of blocked roads, once in the Lakes and again today near Pott Shrigley in Derbyshire..which was fun !

I'm back on the bike tomorrow. I've fettled one up and will be happy taking it steady. Am allowing half an hour extra to do just under 10 miles and am not too worried if I'm late clocking in.

Take care if you're riding tomorrow.

1st Turbo session complete of the year (not used it for about 2 years..xx()- 13 miles total....10 x 1 min intervals...tedious, but hard work.....

Riding in shorts and t-shirt, in sub zero temps in the garage with the fan on me to keep cool - mad.... I've never used the Turbo in the house, even with a fan as I start melting..... The wife won't go on the exercise bike in the garage unless a fan heater has been on for half an hour.........
