With you on that one, not been on the bike for about four weeks now, even the on the mtb I'm struggling. Set of yesterday morning, got about 1/2 mile from home and came off. Turned round and got the car.

shoot weather and laziness for me, roads aren't too bad round here now but have got comfortable using the car lately - need a kick up the backside to get me going again. The bike had a new cassette, chain and front chain ring put on last weekend and a bit of a once over so no excuses really.

Best fun yet today. Kids came back from the bus stop to tell me that bus hadn't turned up, so I gathered them and a couple of their mates and set off. We've had a fantastic covering of freezing rain this morning, and the roads have been very sparsely gritted. We got within a mile of the school (which is on top of a hill funnily enough) to find the police had blocked the road because it was black ice and no cars could get up it at all. We found a detour and tried to get up from the other side of the hill, and as I turned off the main road the traction control and ABS went mental, despite the fact I was doing about 2 mph. I therefore set the kids walking, but before I could get the car turned round they came back to tell me that a member of school staff was posted about a hundred yards further up turning everyone back as the school is closed!

I watched several cars just sliding gracefull round in little circels, people completely unable to find grip, and pedestrians literally skating on the road surface. Close inspection shows a thin covering of glass-like ice on absolutely every surface. Temperature roughly -5 deg up here this morning.

Trying to snow here now. Surprisingly icy in Sth Manchester - no road grit, so was glad for my studded tyres - front tyre slid at one point, then grabbed, as I was turning a corner too quick, hadn't noticed the ice.

The thing that has got me is that, even a month into it, I'm still loving the snow. The only thing I hate is getting bronchitis, so I can't go and play as much as I want to.

Due to lurgy and having to take the cat to the vet we took the car to work yesterday. It took us over two hours to travel 7 miles home in the evening
Road closure caused by blizzards on higher ground meant everyone diverted to the coastal A road as an alternative...eventually causing impassable bottlenecks.
Luckily we know the back lanes inside out from cycling round them so were able to get off the main road and take the scenic route back home .
