I think the 100 mile round trip to my 'local' Lidl might cancel out any savings now they've closed the one in Whitehaven
Closed it ? Bizarre! We are about to get yet another Aldi, giving us 3 in total, along with all the rest.A friend of mine(lives near Morrisons-doesnt use it)remarked that Morrisons and Sainsbury exist to keep the riff raff out of Waitrose!Funnily enough,we havent got one of those, says it all really.

We have an Aldi, but the Lidl closed a few months back. Officially to move to bigger premises, but only if they can find some. So the closest is in Carlisle.

I suppose it saves getting on for 2hrs transport time for deliveries in and out of West Cumbria. Also don't have a Sainsburys, Waitrose or Booths. Morrisons is relatively posh out here

Never had much time for Morrisons, only one of the big 4 + Aldi & Lidl where I have had B grade apples from and a deluxe range dessert that was inedible. The in store bakery in my local Morrisons always amazes me, how slap handed finished everything is, iced buns for example with icing on halfway down the sides and partially across the top. Asda, Sainburys and Lidl are where I normally shop. The fruit from Lidl seems to last far longer than anyone elses, good in store bakery produce and their british meats are all clearly marked with the name and address of the supplier. Lidls monthly newspaper recently had a explanation of why they have their fruit to the rear of the stores, apparently its where the temperature varies the least whereas the big 4 by siting the fruit close to the entrance subject it to greater temperature variances and consequently the fruit goes off quicker.

LiDL's bakery stuff is pretty good, plus they've picked up on putting their finishing off bread ovens near the entrance so you get that smell of fresh bread as you get into the store.

I recently found out where Lidl make some of their cost savings - on warehouse staff. I was delivering some sugar (26 tonnes of it) into Lidl's distribution centre outside Glasgow.

Once you back onto the loading bay at "normal" places, you are not allowed into the back of your trailer or the warehouse, on H&S/security grounds. Fair enough. But not at Lidl; you have to unload your own trailer . You get a 30 second course on how to operate the linkspan to the trailer, and the electric pallet truck, then you're on your own. So much for H&S!

H.o.r.r.i.b.l.e place, there is as much stuff, idly swept underneath the shelves festering, as there is on them, at my local Morries. It's a banal store, "own brand" city..........

My dad shops at Morrisons, it is the closest and it means he can go for a walk to get there instead of using the car to go further afield. He is on his own now so going out everyday is good to keep him active.
