Morrisons put bar in Leeds store

You can now buy a pint while doing your weekly shop at the branch in Guiseley, near Leeds. If all goes well then the supermarket could roll the scheme out across the country, and we could all be necking beers while trying to remember what’s on our shopping list.

Leeds City Council has given Morrisons a modified off-license that allows it to sell alcohol from 6am to 12am.

Guiseley ain't Leeds, really, although it might have a Leeds postcode. But that could be a good place to start. Bet the local pubs are unhappy.

There aren't as many bike and taxi spaces at the local Morrison's as car ones but they're closer to the door (so less time walking to/fro) and seem to have a higher turnover... but I doubt many will drink unless eating a meal in the café.

Was staying in east Berlin a few weeks ago, we had a great supermarket at the end of the street. Had a brilliant cafe bar inside and a few tables and seats outside. Burgers, hotdog and bacon joint for just over a euro and a beer for €1.50. Dozens of customers shopping on bikes and chilling out with a wine or beer for half an hour, it was great.

I need to be half cut to pluck up the courage to go in Morrisons in the first place.

At the one in Eccles they ask you on the door if you have any weapons and if you say you don't, they lend you one.
