Camping on the edge of Saudi's Empty Quarter; The Otabi tribe were famous for hiding in the Empty Quarter and ambushing traffic on the Taif Riyadh Highway. RSAF scrambled Tornados frequently to attack thr Otabis
Same stretch of road, just outside Riyadh is a series of three escarpments. Coming from Riyadh, the first one is a steep climb but once at the top, you get your speed up and can almost freewheel to the top of the second. I think I crested the third one at about 40kph, nice downhill and a flat, straight run off. About a third of the way down, I was doing over 100kph when I spotted a sand bar; about 6 inches wide and an inch high. Going far too fast to do anything, it was a case of gritting my teeth and smile! Fortunately, it was very fine sand!

What's a sand bar?

I've read through this thread thinking, 'I've done faster' for every motorbike and car speed listed.

Then I got to Neil's, he has me - just. But I was two-up.

This action was definitely not on the A419, but instead in some foreign soil. It's a speed I will never want to do again, ever. A slight bend that was often taken at 70-80 mph is like a hairpin at an indicated 169.

I have done some daft speeds on various motorbikes over the years. My 900R decided to work itself towards a tankslap at about 140 on the M3 at about 2am one morning, but I managed (God know's how) to brake hard-ish - which probably didn't help much but it did stop the bar weave. Took the bike to our local motorbike shop - he ran a race team too so figured he would know what had caused it - but they could find nothing wrong with the bike at all. I sold it soon after as it really put the wind up me. Then I bought a different 900R.

I've had various tricky times with bolting horses, once across the A1151 (Wroxham Road for those who know the area). But I rode horses for a living so you kind of expect some iffy moments with them.

I went climbing a couple of times with my ex husband. Very dangerous in itself as he was not nice to climb with. The first I knew of this was when I called down "Watch me" and he ignored me. I called "watch me" again and he replied "I am having a conversation here". I told him to ab me off the climb and he deliberately let about 40' rope just whizz through the grigri and I was not a happy bunny. he said that it would 'teach me a lesson to talk to him when he was in a converstation'. I thought that the climber he was chatting with should have known better, but even he looked disgusted with the ex hubs.
I think that was probably the most actual dangerous thing that I have ever done.

being stupid racing on motorway in France against a porchse carrera , I had a suzuki hayabusa bottled out as the speedo needle hit 175 mph he was getting smaller in my mirrors.

Hitting the speed limiter on my GSXR1000 (apparently that's 186mph) I did look down briefly at the speedo however things were happening quite quickly! - or - riding downhill passing a Ford Focus who was holding me up (he was doing about 50!) Not on the GSXR this time! - or - Jumping out of a perfectly good plane at 15,000ft - or - Bungee jumping - 134M Nevis Highwire in NZ - or - coming face to face with a shark whilst scuba diving, I was told later that this particular shark wasn't dangerous, he looked the part to me!

Night Train

Maker of Things
I rode pillion across London, as a teen, on the back of a bike driven by a bike nut who though I might have been coming onto his girlfriend (I wasn't). Traveling at stupid speeds and knee down zigzagging between taxis and pedestrians rapidly decided me against servicing her car, which was the initial intention.

Not only did I upset the Parisian waiter by calling him Garcon.
I also asked for a sweet white wine to go with the cheese board.

Can you imagine the look on his face? I didn't think I would get out alive.

Sauternes with blue or other salty cheese is a perfect match: Salt. Sweet. & Acid. Epoisses and sauternes is a match made i heaven!

Then I can imagine the waiter was aghast that a pasty faced Englishman actually knew what he was talking about :laugh:
