After a traumatic night of watching "Circus Elephant Rampage" followed by "Blackfish" on ITV4, I was wondering what is the most traumatic or difficult to watch documentary that you have seen? "Sharkwater" is another one that sticks in the mind for me. I seem to have real problems watching documentaries involving senseless harm directed towards animals, and while watching the story of Tyke the elephant last night, for the first time in my life found myself having to physically look away from the television.

When I was student the History department screened a black & white movie made by the Nazis to discredit the Jews. It showed ritual killing of animals and other stuff and was designed to sicken the audience, in which purpose it certainly succeeded. Never forgotten that.

I found blackfish very enlightening rather than traumatic.

The one that freaked me most was an old 1960s simulation documentary of a nuclear strike and the human cost in the aftermath. B&W, very stark and graphic and while still in the cold war period, pretty scary for a young lad with an imagination.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
The most disturbing documentary I ever watched was Cathy come home. Very disturbing.and a bit to close to reality at that time.

Yes I know it was a play, but it was done to look like a documentary and was very disturbing and controversial in its day.

Watching World At War when I was a youngster left a huge impression. War Game also frightened the life out of me.
Alongside a documentary about children getting killed by trains. It was told as if it was a sports day. kids running across the tracks, through tunnels etc.

Edit: Found the train one.

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
I had to watch numerous Post Mortem videos in my initial training along with the scene videos of where the body was found which for a 19yr old were pretty horrid.

Took me 2yrs to stop batting an eyelid or getting weak knees at the real thing although 28yrs later the impact of the event on friends and family of the victim never leaves you.

.........there is an interesting one on the BBC iplayer about how the Germans were treated after the war specially in eastern european..
..

I saw that one. It was called 1945: The Savage Peace and is pretty disturbing, not least because it tells a story that was largely ignored until relatively recently.
