MOT Advisory for Towbar?!

I had my car MOTed yesterday, it passed, but among the advisories, it said, "tow hitch fitted".

In other words, they issued and advisory because I have a towbar fitted? Whut??!

Not the most clear of advisories is it. You could ask the MOT place what they mean by it.

They need to clarify that.

Aske them what the advisory means. You need to know if there is a problem that needs to be dealt with to keep you legal or safe.

It could be that it is not a type approved towbar, or that the ball has got rusty, or the electrics to the socket are faulty.

You can't fix it if you don;t know what it is.

I will phone them up. It is particularly unclear, all it says is "tow hitch fitted". Nothing else!

On the advisory form it says the items listed are items that need attention or are
"any peculiarity of the vehicle"

They probably just note it as there as they are verifying the state of the car on that date.

Does the towbar block / have possibility of blocking any part of the number plate? some cars the plate is low enough down that it can be blocked with fitting a tow bar.

This would be illegal as the plate is not easily readable.

If that was the case, it would have failed. But it didn't.

Nope, it's just a bog ordinary Thule towbar, fitted by a reputable chap in a reputable outfit, nothing unusual!

I suspect (as above) that it was simply being listed as an extra fitting.

Even so, they need to specify what aspect of the towbar they are advising about, it's not good enough to issue a generic advosiry about something. I'd be speaking to them tomorrow.
