Motion sensitive security lights

Wondering if anyone has any ideas. The security light outside my house seemed to have gone and being tardy, I have not yet got a new bulb for it. Nothing triggers it any more and so I assumed the bulb had gone, but I just noticed a glow from a window and there it was, burning away at nothing. 5 minutes later, it is off so I try and trigger it by going out and waving at it...nothing, nada, no sign of life - it is a dead light again.

WTF! Am I going mad? No switches in the house have been used and I cannot explain it, unless the main sensor has gone and only spiders or something inside the light is triggering it randomly nowadays.

Any advice or experiences?

In simple terms, buy a new one.
They dont last forever sadly. Damp gets into the gubbins i should think....i seem to remember replacing two in the last ten or so years.

Sorry, no technical or definitive answers...it's fubar'd.

The good news is that they have got cheap so replacing them isn't too tough.

The bad news is that they are ruddy expensive to repair, so those with a conscience will feel guilty about throwing them out and getting a new one.
