After a typically grim Christmas last year (not just down to the weather), I decided I wasn't going to have a repeat this year so booked 4 weeks of cycling in the sun. Actually looking forward to winter now - roll on December.

Sounds good! Where are you going and who with (which company, I mean)?
I have the winters free and want to get away somewhere for 3-4 weeks sometime between December and March, but don't want to pay ridiculous prices.

I've booked a couple of tours with www.spiceroads.com, the first is Saigon to Bangkok which is back roads touring and the second one is a mountain bike tour in the north of Thailand (Chaing Mai).

I suppose cost is relative to your income but this is going to work out pretty dear, but I don't generally spend much on holidays so decided to push the boat out this year.

although a born again biker, i am currently suffering man flu, the usual (close to death type of symptoms) i am really missing my commute to work, did wonder weather i should just give it a go, but mowing the lawn left me feeling dizzy and drained, here's to feeling better ASAP. and getting back on the bike.

Went out early this morning to try to avoid the worst of the continual winds. No chance. The south westerly was blowing at 25 plus, and the hill I usually climb at 17 mph cut me down to 10, and boy was it hard. Mind you, the return via a different route had me at 30 mph plus for three miles solid. I could fool myself into thinking I was an accomplished cyclist;)

Sorry to hear that goo, if only you had come north!

Just been thinking - my mate from work was doing a triathlon in London at some point when I was off on holiday; wonder whether he got a good drenching ?

You all need to move south where the sun shines for longer, rains less and the wind, well we've still got that....had a blistering ride today though despite the wind, fantastic. One of those rides when nothing is wrong in the world, just me and my bike with beautiful scenery and great climbs.

Anyone else having trouble motivating themselves to cycle this year?

The last two years were fine but this year has been a bit of a struggle, mostly due to the weather - I think this is the worst summer I can remember.

Don't know about elsewhere but here (Fife) the weather has been crap for ages - usual dreary (albeit fairly mild) Scottish winter, followed by a couple of months of high winds early in the year and now a miserable summer. Can't remember a summer with so much rain and so little sun light. If it isn't raining, its overcast - I think so far there have only been a few days where the temperature has actually cracked 20 C, and only two or three that could be considered nice summer days.

I totally feel the same way: today i dodged the showers under bridges, bus stops (1st 10mls) before they subsided...and ended up doing 3hrs which i wanted to do do, not 1 hour or so of rain riding.

I remember saying last year on here 'i hope to hell, this yr 2008, is better' and its been as it is: god knows what it'll be like next year !

I only know and feel 2006 was the best summer ever ive known.

2006 was hot - remember cooking at 38C in protacabins for weeks on end at work - horrible... only relief was getting in an air con car at home time.

Actually I've better motivated this year -last couple of years I was doing my masters so now I feel much more able to cycle. I've probably done more this year so far than for the last couple of years gone by.
