As we speak - 45% of the grid is powered by wind. Fossil Fuels down to 10%.

Which is good but could be better.

But on the windiest days, we deliberately capped the amount of power our turbines were producing, reducing the total amount generated by 6%. In fact, it’s worse than that: not only did we turn off our turbines, but we paid the owners of windfarms to turn them off. This is called curtailment.

Closer to 60% at certain times.

However, as yet the grid cant handle peak wind output. That'll come, but takes time.

In the short term its less expensive to pay wind energy producers to reduce peak ouput in than it is to keep jockeying other sources of energy up and down to compensate for winds relatively rapid fluctuation.

Im pretty sure some wind turbines use Redex and have those rubber anti static strips.

It's a scientific fact that a wind turbine works better when fitted with furry dice.

Diesels were essentially mid-sold to people for whom they were unsuitable. They were sold on better fuel economy and grunty torque but are not great for short journeys.

People also started panicking when they encountered an active regen, with the car driving a little differently and smelling hot and the fans running on after shut down, because nobody explained them.

Passive regens usually happen naturally with no action needed, but do require certain speed and revs to trigger. Aunt Mable would rarely trigger these regens on the 2 mile round trip to the post office.

And then as the DPF filled up it would trigger more and more active regens which would drive fuel dilution into the oil which wouldn’t evaporate because the engine never got properly warm and so round and round we go in a self-destructive cycle.

When VW got caught with the whole cheat device business I had a Škoda Yeti with an affected engine. They tried to get me to have the official remap update and I refused because I knew it would lead to problems. Sure enough, after updates there were plenty of reports of failed EGR and DPF systems.

My new to me mini is more fuel efficient over short journeys than the 2l TDI Skoda Octavia it replaced.

Does anyone remember hanging chains off bumpers? (No bumpers, no chains!)
…using wire coat hangers as radio aerials?
The romance of low tech…

I did the aerial thing on my old Austin Devon and Morris Minor.
