Currently watching tonight's episode of "Bangers & Cash" and they've just sold a trailer pump for a fire engine. That's fitted with a Coventry Climax engine. Yep - the same ones fitted to the Coopers of the same era.

Nice little nerdy spot.

So will Horner be team manager?

Who knows? Rumours continue to link him with Alpeen, and hes reckoned to be good mates with Flav, but who knows?

It'd certainly be entertaining at many levels to see him at Cadillac.

Tinto Wilf was moaning about Horner in the media recently, albeit going round the houses a bit to avoid being directly rude about him, but the message was the same. Wollfy forgot to mention that for the most part it was himself that started a lot ot the arguments and he then couldn't handle it when Horny remained largely unflappable and laconic instead of exploding with rage at the might of Tony Wolf's enormous intellect. "If you don't like it backatcha then dont dish it in the first place" seems to be a lesson lost on Tino Worf.

Wilma's "I live rent-free in his head" comment about Horner was the most obviously inverted statement I've heard from an F1 figure in some decades. Horny's "and I sleep well at night!" response was a beautiful piece of retaliatory button pushing.

I cant say I'm an enormous fan of the man (nor of any of the TPs really) but things were certainly entertaining when he was about.

Meanwhile Jos the Toss has got his wish, but its going to bite him on the ass. Max will nefer be champion again at Red Bull, any slim chance having evaporated with Horner's departure. From the outside thats a most baffling piece of self sabotage, but I dont think Jos is particularly gifted in the skills required to navigate the shark infested waters of F1 politics so he probably cant think three moves ahead. Hes probably sheet at chess as well.

There is still Alpine, although Horner’s future in F1 may be wrapped up in whatever agreement he made with RBR on departure.

Good point..

Well, that's probably decided the championship. How long before the conspiracy theorists start chuntering on about that one.

Mind you, prior to that he'd made a rookie error in allowing Max to pass. Sure, he regained then plade seven laps later, but that's a mistake he can't afford to make, time he shouldn't be wasting, if he wants a championship of his own.

Meanwhile Piastri was peerless. Fast, steady, in perfect zen like control throughout.

And brilliant work from Hadjar, who has quietly become the rookie to watch. Let's hope they dont reward the poor lad with a seat at Red Bull.

Yes

But Red Bull seems to be getting the idea that maybe
just maybe
just making a car for max and only MAx and ignoring the concept that he can drive any car and they need to make the damn thing so that someone else can drive it

and also not just do whatever Max wants and maybe
again just maybe
they might need to listen to the other driver

wonder what changed?????

but I would rather he drove something else
anything else!!

They've gone well beyond making a car to suit max. If they'd stuck to doing that they'd probably be fine, but...

They've gone down a rabbit hole the last 2 years with a car that is mathematically fast in simulation, but is a nightmare for anyone to drive because the feedback is all wrong.

Its the same problem McLaren were struggling with a couple of years back, albeit they suffered nowhere near as severely.

Max does better in it because simply hes the the more gifted driver, not besause it was designed around him - its the last thing he wants to be driving and thats a development route theyll never try again.

No point having a super-fast car if no one can master it, so next year you can be sure theyll definitely design a car for Max, and because it behaves and responds conventionally their second driver is liable to be much closer to the front.

Thats the position they were in when Perez was first signed and the car was definitely designed to suit the wunderkind, and the direction they've taken since has overwhelmed Perez and cost Max a 5th consecutive title.

Possibly

next year will be interesting - until the first race no-one will know who has got it right and who has messed up
