And yet everyone except you thinks that he is:-

BBC:
Kimi Antonelli clinched his first world title and became the youngest champion in Formula 1 history by finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

ESPN:
There was one rather significant thing missing from Kimi Antonelli's world championship celebrations in Mexico City: the world championship trophy itself.

Despite becoming the youngest champion in Formula 1 history, the Italian will have to wait until Dec. 12 to get his hands on the prize he has spent his life chasing. That is because, unlike almost every other major sporting competition, F1 does not hand its championship trophy to the winner at the moment of victory. Instead, Antonelli will receive it while wearing a tuxedo, in a sterile hall, at the FIA's annual prize-giving gala dinner in Shanghai in December, six weeks after clinching the title.

Sky Sports:

Kimi Antonelli crowned 2026 F1 world champion as Max Verstappen wins wild Mexico City Grand Prix from Lewis Hamilton

Kimi Antonelli has won the 2026 F1 Drivers' Championship at 20 years and 68 days old, breaking Sebastian Vettel's record for youngest world champion by three years; Max Verstappen won a wild Mexico City Grand Prix from Lewis Hamilton amid drama between the Ferrari drivers

Kimi Antonelli has made history by becoming F1’s youngest-ever World Champion, the Italian sealing his maiden title in only his sophomore season – but that’s not the only record he has broken during his run to the crown.

Read the FIA sporting regs I linked to above. Theirs is the only opinion that matters.

He has qualified to become world champion, but does not become so until 12th December. Its there in black and white.

Here's an explanation...

https://racingnews365.com/why-kimi-antonelli-did-not-receive-his-champions-trophy-despite-winning-f1-title

Note the key words:

Although the commercial rights holder (Liberty Media) controls the commercial side of F1, it is the FIA that retains the sporting and regulatory authority. Therefore, as Antonelli was crowned FIA Formula 1 world champion - it is the FIA whose authority the matter is covered by.

Moves have been made in the past to try and relax the situation - but given the prospect of technical challenges and potential disqualifications, the FIA is reluctant to hand over a trophy to a driver and then potentially be forced to take it away again.

Therefore, Antonelli, although world champion, will not be officially so until he is crowned on December 12th - at which point Lando Norris ceases to be the reigning world champion as he hands back the trophy, which is then Antonelli's for the year, at least.

Whats the phrase? Ah, yes. "Get over it."

I wouldnt trust any of those sources, even F1.com  to understand the rules well enough, Kimi is world champion designate, and will be crowned at the prize giving thing in December, till then Lando is still the current WC.
