Have a look at these.

http://www.decathlon...2011-172072748/ Bang on budget, and excellent value for money. I've just got back from France, and every third bike you see over there is a Rockrider.... even the local cops ride them.

Wow! Now to my untrained eye that looks very nice and very tempting

The story so far

We have very much gone down the recommended route as advised on this forum i.e. find a couple of old discarded bikes, try them out, practice and learn how to maintain them, all going well, with brakes, brake cables, gearcables being replaced and bits taken apart cleaned and lubricated but the problem was Lynne’s bike was still a dog to ride and needed replacing, at first we were going to buy two new bikes however decided to just to buy Lynne one for now, with me continuing on the learning maintenance curve but that Rockrider 5.32011 is very tempting

Thanks for your input Cubist

Regards Glyn

Last year's model of the Rockrider 5.3 is down to £300, although limited in stock and sizes. It does look a great bike for the money.

I saw you ask about the Carrera Vengeance earlier in the thread. I just got (again last year's model) of the Vengeance LTD from Halfords for £275. Great bike for that price (hydraulic brakes, decent gears etc). They only had 20" frames left though (aside from an 18" in Scotland!).

Yeah that's weird, I can't find it on the Halfords site either. Probably best to phone your local store to see if they've got any. It's this version/colour thats £275, so you've got an idea what you're looking for:
