As Lee, said the headwind for 40 miles was something else.... I think my thighs took a whole week to recover...and I drafted 'Teef for most of the way..

Serves you right Ian, there you were trying to lead us 'right in the mind' ones off the good path of trains home.

I think I distinctly remember you saying to me that the headwind gets easier once inland and that it wasn't much of a headwind or words to those effects...Chuckled when I read Lee's post about 'what idiot said..'

Great stuff!

Yes, Grace... it was Lee's fault, he can take the blame.. I was just repeating what he said... I think....;)

Still was a jolly good ride home though...

Let's not forget Davywalnuts.

Hopefully not looking for some close family thais, or on an old bike over there.
Good luck Davy...if in doubt think of a kebab!

A propos nothing a 2010 Mouseketeer thought is to do what I was going to do on Christmas Day...ride around the M25 (ok - we're not all Lee) 'adjacent' but close enough, crossing the QE2 Bridge...

It has also been interesting reading some of these threads, unfortunately I live a considerable distance from where future rides are likely to take place.

Mike e is a considerably better rider. It won't stop me completely, I'll come on some FNRttc before June and some kind of home counties ride, I just wish the temperature would hit 3 or 4C.

100 miles round the M25 perimeter? Sounds soulless but probably interesting in parts. At least there'll be loads of petrol stations.

Nearly picked up a book in a charity shop (one on Leather Road off Holborn I think) by a bloke who walked around the M25. All about the oddities he found in the landscape.

It doesn't sound that crazy, it is similar to a problem I was thinking of for a while. I was wondering about a 7 counties ride and what the minimum distance for it would be.

I think some peeps on YACF did it, though I think it's a few good miles longer then 100

That should do it.

Essex, Kent, Hampshire/Sussex (?), Surrey, Bucks, Berks, Middx.

If you do the historic counties there are a few variants.

What I had in mind was Middlesex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Kent. The minimum to get 9 in would probably include Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

If you do newer counties it's a lot harder and 150 miles? A lot anyway.
