I think it all depends on the person wearing (sporting?) it and the style of 'tache/beard. A long-dead uncle had a spiffing/top-hole (etc) raf-style 'tache - not quite handlebar in proportions - really suited him. He *was* in the RAF during the war, ground-crew rather than pilot, dunno if that's where it started or not. A mate at the pub has a tache/goatee and tbh I'm not sure it suits him, but I can't quite work out why

Except that *completely* fails where (heavy) metal's concerned

For years I had a goatee, about 5 years let it grow to whatever it reached - I get more than a few complimentary comments, despite that fact it's not ZZ-top-huge..
Still, anyone that doesn't like it probably isn't gonna be the sort of person I'd be bothered to have much to do with, so it's a bit of character-filter
