Moving from cyclo cross to hybrid

After starting the commute this year on a very old heavy MTB i purchased a Voodoo Limba X bike which i have got on ok with.

However with the onset of this snow and ice i have come to realise that i feel more comfortable being upright with wider bars so am considering selling the Limba and buying myself a new Hybrid.

I have also found the v-brakes to be slghtly scary in the wet (despite changing the pads to cool stop) so would like to go Disc this time.

Recommedationd for a Hybrid with Road gearing, Disc brakes, mudguard and rack points? (going to check a Boardman in Halfords at lunchtime) Anything else to consider.

Oh and want to buy my Limba? lol :-)

There's nothing wrong with a good set of V-Brakes, the trouble is mini v's partnered with drop bar levers are pretty rubbish.

What about this Cube Race It's a flat bar roadie type although it doesn't have discs. you could add those during the build. Nice bike, my mate has one.

Doesn't your bike have cantilever brakes, rather than V brakes? If so just changing to V-brakes would give you much better braking, even in the rain, and it would be a lot cheaper to get some flat bars and a good V-brake set than what you would lose on changing the whole bike.

If you are sure you really need to change to disc brakes have a look at Charge, Cotic, Genesis and On-One - they all do something that would fit what you are looking for.

Sorry yes it does have cantilevers my mistake, changing the bike seems a lot of hasstle to be honest as it would be gears, levers the lot and i would probably need a shop to do it adding to the cost.

Plus my bike has no eylets for a rear rack which i really need..

Thanks for the bike suggestions so far, am seriously thinking about selling the car (second car) so want to make the right choice!

Sadly you can't just fit standard V-brakes to any bike that has drop bar levers. The levers don't pull enough cable.
You can use either Mini-v's (which I assume the OP already has) or a device known as a travel agent to adapt your brake levers for use with stand V-Brake arms. Neither option really gives you mega powerfull brakes though.

btw, a lot of cheap cable discs are pretty rubbish too!

I'll not be changing the bike configuration, i brought it second hand anyway so shouldn't loose to much selling.

I ride a Dawes Tanami, and apart from having too many gears (24, but don't use 1/2 of them) it's a great commuter bike. It doesn't have disc brakes, but the V-brakes on it are really good. Re Halfords, my bike was £449.99 in Halfords, but I got it for £299.99 online. Although if I hadn't sat on it in Halfords first, I wouldn't have know to go for the bigger frame. I also really like the 'Crow man' type swept back bars, very comfortable, with loads of space for extras.
