Our wood burner installed about a year ago seems to be moving to the left as you look at it. Has anyone else had this happen?

Ours moved to the left a bit, probably caused by closing the door hard. I moved it back again.

Our's does the same. There is a fair bit of weight in the door and think just swinging open a door closed is enough to cause a bit of movement.

I like our stove, but I wouldn't say I get emotional about it.

I married mine, but it was never consumated.

We had our chimney swept once and I watched the bloke, since then I do it myself.
Mind you a lot of companies overcharge quite shamelessly no only for the sweeping but also the price/install, when we bought ours we paid just under £800 for the stove and £400 for the fitting whereas when I went into a 'stoveshop' they wanted £2,500 for the stove and install. I also had trouble finding someone to fit it but after ringing around got someone to do it and it turned out to be the son of the bloke whose Brass Foundry I'd worked at, proper HETAS registered and did a fantastic job, Chimney passed the 'leak test' so no need for a liner and the guy even fitted a proper 'pot' and witches hat cowl (not just a wire mesh anti bird cover)
Likewise I wanted a 'beam' for above the fire and was quoted £200 for a bit of wood so went off to a timberyard and got the piece of Oak I wanted for £40 (It isn't functional merely decorative)
Stove is a Franco-Belge Montfort Mk 2 with the modified vent thingy fitted so it is a DEFRA approved exempt appliance but is no longer 'Multifuel' it is Wood Only with that fitted.

wood burner stoves are tremendously efficient at heating your chimney breast and the air above your chimney. They do look nice mind.

Ours is a nominal 4.7kw heat source and reckoned to be 74% efficient, takes a while to warm up but the other side is it takes a long while to cool down, the front room is still warm in the morning.
One thing you don't see often is a pyrometer on the exposed section of flue that lets you know how well the stove is burning, too cold and you risk sap condensing in the chimney* and too hot is less efficient. Ideal flue temp is 350-500 centigrade but without that gauge it is difficult to tell.
It also helps that the chimney is not on an outside wall but rather is in the centre of the house.

* The gauge calls it Creosote

Mrs W contacted Mark the installer and sent him a picture of the stove asking him if it would alright to move it back. He replied “ Yes but don’t do it while it’s lit” It seems she sent him a picture of it blazing away.
He offered to come and do it if we can’t manage.
