The running race is on tonight at 6pm. If it's fine it might be fun to cycle over to watch.

I ran this, I think in 1991

There were a series of 6 or 7 races throughout the evening.

I probably ran the steeper sections faster than I could have ridden them. It added about 3 mins to my (flat) mile PB.

Certificate and T-shirt as mementoes.

I watched it that year; I think that Bashir Hussein (Stockport AC) won it in a new course record . . . not much over 6 minute miling.

Inspired, I did it the following year in about 8:30. I'm glad to hear the race is still going.

That sounds familiar, I think he won quite a few races locally around that period.

8:30 was around my finishing time too I got my mile PB down a bit but never ran the Killer Mile again. I'm not certain but think the race may have stopped for a number of years.

Yes, he did. I did the Wilmslow Half and the Astbury 10 which he won.

IIRC, he is one of the very few runners, who have represented England, in every running discipline . . . . . . . Track, Road, Fell and Cross Country.

He is currently Junior Team Manager for the UK Fell & Mountain Running team. He's a nice fella.

Bashir was one of the 2 training staff/assessors when I did my coaching qualification a couple of years ago. Nice bloke and has a long history in the sport.

Yep, a really sound fella; I've not seen him since 2000, when I did the Tour of Tameside - an iconic race series. (Bl**dy tough, though)

I agree with this ^^^ , I reckon I could run up the steeper bits, faster than I could on a bike, it would feel more comfortable running, rather than cycling.
