MTB for fun and Winter commuting

After getting bitten by the commuting bug i'm now on the look out for something to use during the snow / ice and for family rides / trails / fun at the weekends, don't want to put my lovely Sirrus Comp through the snow and general crud too much! I'm a medium sized man

My "likes list is as follows"

Hardtail / Front Suspension - Lockout if possible
Disc Brakes - again Hydraulic if possible
Rack mounts

Budget up to £250 possibly £300 but would like to reserve that £50 for a few "extras"
