After putting a large hole in my specialized frame (whoops) I'm after something new.

Only musts are front suspension and disc brakes, Ill be replacing wheels and brakes (not the discs) etc anyway.

And something slightly more relaible than the Specialized would be nice as I had to repair that weekly.

I ride my current mtb everyday throughout winter and do weekly 40 ish mile rides once the weather gets a bit better, also doing a 75 mile sportive this year so those 40 will prob be more like 60 miles. I do go on road a fair bit for my commute but obviously I mainly want something I can have fun with off road! Oh and I'm a woman if that makes any difference ( I always seem to end up with blokes bikes)

Thankyou!

Budget? Size?

Reliable? Provided the frame doesn't break (which yours seems to have done) the rest of the mechanical kit will be Shimano or SRAM, one of their subsidiaries such as Avid, or maybe something a bit odd like Hope. You really got little choice when it comes to reliability, as that mainly comes down to how the bike is used, treated and maintained.

Don't specialized have a lifetime frame guarantee, assuming you were the first owner? What were you having to repair weekly?

Paulscycles often have good deals on older hardtails, depending on your budget and size

If I wanted an MTB, I'd probably get a whyte as I like the brand

I had an MTB briefly, which was a bargain Kona, I was advised they are a top brand too

Great thanks for the advice so far, budget of around 500-600 unless that is unrealistic. Size wise not too sure sorry. I kept my specialized well cleaned and looked after and didn't treat it too harshly, it just seemed forever to go wrong/break and spare parts always had to be ordered in. Also was very heavy to ride but that's not a major issue really.

I wasn't aware of any guarantee so will have
a look thankyou.

Voodoo Bizango worth a look. That's a tricky price point, right on the cusp of some very good stuff. Shop about and you may well find a 2014 model that was £1000 this time last year.

How tall are you approx?

Couple of options (although odd sizes)... @Drago much more expert

Hmm at 5'5 the XS will be too small I would think, no expert on MTB sizing but guess you'd be a small or a 15-16" frame?

Maybe try your local Giant dealer

Cyclesurgery have the 2014 reduced but in a medium or large - medium might be ok but go sit on one  Their size guide suggests Small for 5'5 regardless of leg length

Ok, you're compact and bijou. Not a problem, but any 29st liable to be small enough to fit is liable to be quite compromised with its geometry. A nice bit of 26" or 650b action is what you need.

Talons not a bad bike. Well finished, robust, workmanlike groupset combo. Not going to set your Y fronts ablaze with desire, but a worthy, steady, comfortable companion.

How about a shiny new Giant tempt (stupid name)

Or something different, a Lapierre?

Or my old friend (for about 30 miles, as there ain't no mountains in these here parts, just roads ) a Kona

Where in the country are you based?
