You can get within about 3-4 km of the nearest point to Muckle Flugga on tarmac and then it's a walk across boardwalk and peat to the northernmost point of Hermaness, from which you can see Muckle Flugga.

As near as you can get to Muckle Flugga lighthouse, about a 4 km walk from the car park. If you took a bike, you'd be carrying it.

The most northerly point you could potentially ride to is a radio mast about 1 km north of Saxa Vord radar, or a track going north from Skaw if you aren't allowed to the radio mast.

Once upon a time there were boat trips out round the Flugga. My friend's holiday company used to charter one as part of a week-long holiday. Used to get champagne as we sailed around the northern-most point of Britain and watched the Gannets diving.

show me pics of Shetland isles please and are the outer islands worth a visit
Depends what you want to see - wildlife, heritage, scenery? Some of the islands are harder to get to than others - you've probably realized that there's a regular ferry service to Yell, Unst, Fetlar, etc. but I think you need to fly to Foula for example.

What time of year are you going? I'm planning a visit in June all being well.

I found some pics on my blog - not fantastic quality but...

Despite living on Shetland a number of years I never went up to Unst. As a young chap it never really appealed, but when I go home in the summer I may well make the effort to visit Britain's most northerly bus stop.
