Ivan pointed out that a mudguard extender would keep the crud off the chain/sprockets. After seeing them on ebay for around £20 I thought I'd have a go at a bodge job. I thought I had an old mudguard kicking around, but couldn't find it. I did come across some left over plastic corrugated roofing though, and a lightbulb appeared over my head. I cut it down to one strip the width of the mudguard, heated it over the cooker hob, and moulded it over the existing mudguard to get the dual curve shape. Et voila, a perfect fit. It even clipped inside the existing mudguard quite firmly, but I added a couple of self tappers to ensure it stays put. O.K, so it's not too pretty, but it should do the job. Total cost, nowt.....well 2 screws, and maybe a penny worth of gas. Thanks for the idea Ivan!

Drill a hole in guard and fix with any nut and bolt from the spares bin............. or tape ! -TBH I had good results with just tape - flap to outside of guard and tape.........

OP watch it with the hard polycarbonate if you curb hop..... might catch the guard and shatter.......... Pop bottles are quite 'forgiving'

To me a drill is a specialist tool

I've used a spare piece off the Cruds and taped it to the Raceblade seems quite solid, but will experiment further if I ever get back out on the bike

Been meaning to try this to extend my Raceblades, what's the best way to attach them without any specialist tools?

I just used a couple of 10mm long self tappers through the existing guard in towards the tyre (but no where near touching it.) It looks quite tidy from the outside. I thought about bolts, but this worked just fine.

Done mine again properly today, small nut and bolt(no drill) at the top and some black electricians tape near the bottom. Looks like it should work quite well

I now have a mixture of Raceblades and Cruds front and back, almost as good as full guards now
