Came off last week, back wheel came out from under me on some mud while the roads were wet in the morning. I ride on quiet country lanes to work. I was only turning a very gentle corner at the time then BAM! - next thing I know I'm on the deck, some driver pulls up coming the other way and helps me up. Got a nice big bruise on my hip now, but am more pissed off about the fact that I broke a mudguard, bent one of the hoods and my rear mech (or something around it) is clicking and gears aren't shifting quite right.

Farmers have been leaving stupid amounts of mud all over the roads at the moment and it's downright dangerous in the wet or damp. Can local councils do anything about this!???! I swear that stuff is more slippery than ice!

Mud on the road is a pain, and farmers tend to just put up sigsn with the "what can we do attitude?". Councils around here just go further and put up other signs, which stay there for ages... so people get used to reading "slippy surface" for 5 weeks whilst its now dry, only for it to be bad again the next day and the sign to be totally ineffective.

Mud is also nasty when it dries into reverse potholes...

Sounds like the rear mech (or more likely mount) is bent, that click'll likely be the jockey wheel not engaging the chain correctly which will mess up the shifting. Get it checked at your LBS, might just be a simple straightening job.

Farmers are supposed to clean up the road if/when they drop mud on it, failure to do so can be prosecuted (I believe it is obstructing the highway, but not certain of that).

Maybe this is a job for some scumbag no-win-no-fee solicitors or something. Where there's blame there's a claim!

Will check the rear mech tonight when I get home for signs of obvious damage. Hope it's not too bent / destroyed :S Will also try to straighten the hood up if I can.... once again fingers crossed for being able to bend it back into place!!!
