I received notification that I am being considered for being made redundant. I don't know whether to laugh or celebrate. A lot of my colleagues on the same bus are panicking.

Are they loosing the plot?

Blimey, Vern........why would anyone want to make experienced teachers redundant? It's not as if there's a surfeit of them in the country at the mo.

Perhaps she has been sound asleep all day, and you waking her has made her realise her bladder is full. Rocky has the same problem when Mrs R gets home from work.

Sorry to hear that, I had three of them, all of them ending in said redundancy (not helping here, I know) Each time though I just moved on and did something different.

I'm not phased by it. I am close to the end of my career. There's several steps that have to be taken, I might be offered a different role at a lower pay rate, I might be made redundant, I might not be made redundant. All have equal weighting in desirability in my eyes.

I am working in a school that has recently been placed in special measures. It now appears that not only have the management lost control of the education side of the school, they have also lost control of the budget.

There's 'top teachers' and there's 'top teachers'. The Teach First initiative has been placing graduates with First Class Honours degrees into underperforming high schools for some years with the idea that they stay one and have accelerated promotions. The graduates take up the offer with the knowledge that at the end of the compulsory two years in the classroom, that they are guaranteed job interviews with blue chip companies. Most of the ones that have been through my school are now happily earning a crust outside of education.

I'd love to know where the recruitment pot of top teachers willing to move into the schools identified as failing. I think that it's a very shallow pot as I don't think that many will be willing to up sticks and move.
