I am definatly doing a @Dayvo when i retire and spending my winters in India.

Just finished watching The Real Marigold Hotel and it made me realise i have been away from India far too long.

Started to fix our creaky stairs. Whilst laid up in hospital, I mentioned it to my fellow room mate about the stairs creaking. As a builder, he recommended a wood adhesive that expands slightly, and sets in either 5 mins or 30 depending upon which one you buy. He even said where to buy it.

Today I fixed 5 of the bottom squeaky steps with it, and just have the top 4 to sort tomorrow. Brilliant stuff. Everbuild Lumberjack Wood Adhesive. Remove carpet, apply glue along the joints and gaps, let set, no squeak. On the bigger corner stairs I used an L bracket to strengthen the joint between the steps.

One happy wife ! She's been mithering me for ages to fix it, but I hadn't found away to stop the squeak, even with additional screws.

Great advice @fossyant we will be having a new hall/stairs carpet in a couple of months, reckon I should take the chance to cure a couple of squeeks at the same time.

Off out now for show 4 of 10, Simon Evans, one of our favourites.

It works. The issue is with the vertical MDF panels, there is just enough play to cause a squeak. I ran the glue round all the joints and it's now cured the problem. Just got to do the rest tomorrow. The bottom 3 steps are corner ones, and they were squeaky as hell (not helped by a 15 year old lad who can't walk down stairs without jumping on every one).

I've no idea what's in it as it doesn't smell, and comes out quite fluid, but goes off quick and is very tacky. I got the 30 minute one as wanted a little more 'work' time. You don't even have to stay off the stairs. The noise slowly goes as it sets. Great stuff.
