Shame Newbolds in Darlo shut down. Their pork pies were a thing of beauty warm out the oven. Their cheese and onion pasties were delish too.

Morning all! It is grey and wet here.. I am glad that I managed to finish the job yesterday, my hands are sore. Once I have taken the old axle back I can have a rest!

Shame Newbolds in Darlo shut down. Their pork pies were a thing of beauty warm out the oven. Their cheese and onion pasties were delish too.

Newboulds must have come and gone since I left Darlington for Leeds in 1977. Taylors' were the pie of choice and Darlo folk still swear by them - until the taste the ones from Boroughbridge, Ripon or Bedale that I arrive with. Once a pie maker moves to industrial scale production, like Taylors have done, the quality of the pie nearly always suffers.

Newboulds have a large presence in Teeside and a head office in Hurworth but no presence in Darlington. I'll have to nip over to Middlesborough or Stokesley sometime.
