You lucky... lucky...lucky bugger. Very rare I get to see that.
 even with the naked eye, it is simply stunning. Whilst I was on the phone to my brother last night, I turned off all of the lights in the laundry (the only place we get a signal and where a hotspot is currently being made by my phone to allow internet access) and let my eyes adjust. Half the roof and all of the wall down to worktop level is glass, the view up was amazing. It will however be awful in the summer: it faces north!

The only thing I know about the sky at the bottom is: they have a southern cross constellation? If so... Where is it! (I'm such a pleb ignoring your brilliant photos for just one bit:laugh:
it's in there somewhere. The last photo, faces south.... good look hunting!

Good question well put. I think they are goldfish of some kind, but i'm only guessing. They have been fed this morning, but there was no sign of them but given I have lived here more than 3 weeks (?) and had no idea they even existed, that is nothing to go by.

Here are 2 of them, the 2 I caught and rescued due to them being in distress from lack of oxygen in the remaining water in the pond (which was thick with mud, debris and stank to high heaven.) The 3rd looked like the 'normal' one but I wasn't able to catch it.

and the fish pond after I had re-done it.
PS I know nothing about fish, or keeping them or fish ponds!

Well they look like goldfish definitely. Good job done on the pond! You must be getting better as you are capable of doing more than I possibly can. As for looking after the fish, there isn't much to it. My Dad had a thing about ponds and we kept goldfish in them. The main issue was keeping cats away. I'm sure the fish will appreciate your feeding them but they live on the plankton otherwise.

If I am reading the information correctly... taken from this website, then the southern cross is not in the wires, but actually off that photo completely.

But I could be completely wrong because this is all new to me!

the long red lines running down, should lead to the south celestial pole (which is another star) which then gives you the south pole...

Did all your stuff arrive OK in the end or did I miss that bit?
thanks.
it arrived on Tuesday. I don't know if it has all arrived. there were several boxes opened and resealed plus things I have yet to locate (more worryingly) but some of that may be I don't know what boxes they were in in the first place because someone else (professional removers) packed them for me. But all of the boxes arrived and seemed full when opened. I just haven't unpacked any (which is apparently not part of the service despite me being told it was!)

Only one of the bike boxes has been opened. The unpackers at this end decided instantly that the bikes had been dismantled too far for them to be allowed to reassemble them because they bits may become loose and they would be liable. (they were talking about only being able to put pedals back on and straighten handle bars... the wheels have been removed and I removed the chains to clean them to get them through customs, their excuse didn't really hold for me.) But I'm yet to ascertain what damage has been done to the bikes by the packers. I need to do that this weekend. One the only bike unpacked so far, or should I say the only box opened so far, I instantly say that there was insufficient packing or just plain bad packing where the rear wheel had been placed with the cassette between the forks. The cassette didn't have any packing material between it and the underneath of the top of the forks and has removed a lot of paint all the way to the bare metal. This is the prime area for getting wet and muddy on any bike (that bit where the forks meet and that horrible brake bracket is on bikes with V or A brakes. So I may well be putting in an insurance claim for a lot of money. Lets hope the others were better packed! The weekend will ascertain that!
who knew there were that many stars
I know and that is only my first attempt. I have never tried star photography before, or night time photography for that matter. I will have to go and look up how to do it and get my big camera out along with the tripod. My mobile phone did not make a very satisfactory tripod!
