thanks.
it arrived on Tuesday. I don't know if it has all arrived. there were several boxes opened and resealed plus things I have yet to locate (more worryingly) but some of that may be I don't know what boxes they were in in the first place because someone else (professional removers) packed them for me. But all of the boxes arrived and seemed full when opened. I just haven't unpacked any (which is apparently not part of the service despite me being told it was!)

Only one of the bike boxes has been opened. The unpackers at this end decided instantly that the bikes had been dismantled too far for them to be allowed to reassemble them because they bits may become loose and they would be liable. (they were talking about only being able to put pedals back on and straighten handle bars... the wheels have been removed and I removed the chains to clean them to get them through customs, their excuse didn't really hold for me.) But I'm yet to ascertain what damage has been done to the bikes by the packers. I need to do that this weekend. One the only bike unpacked so far, or should I say the only box opened so far, I instantly say that there was insufficient packing or just plain bad packing where the rear wheel had been placed with the cassette between the forks. The cassette didn't have any packing material between it and the underneath of the top of the forks and has removed a lot of paint all the way to the bare metal. This is the prime area for getting wet and muddy on any bike (that bit where the forks meet and that horrible brake bracket is on bikes with V or A brakes. So I may well be putting in an insurance claim for a lot of money. Lets hope the others were better packed! The weekend will ascertain that!

I know and that is only my first attempt. I have never tried star photography before, or night time photography for that matter. I will have to go and look up how to do it and get my big camera out along with the tripod. My mobile phone did not make a very satisfactory tripod!
Fingers crossed it all works out with the bike insurance claim or not.

Sounds and looks like you are in an ideal location for night time photography. Can't wait to see what you produce when your big camera and lenses are found.

Thanks for the star information, I think I was expecting the southern cross to be grander in scale. It's still amazing ow many you can see though. So what are the tips for producing a photo like that as I would love to try that myself.

As for the unpacking ..... That will keep you busy, though it's annoying you don't know what is in each box!is the track going to be OK to cycle on?

2am cats bring in a mouse for their mum.

The tag team chase it under mums bed.

2.10am Sasha gets bored waiting and buggers off leaving Henry on watch.

2.30am Henry decides there's more fun to be had outside.

Me and the mouse cohabit.

4am I get up.

4.30am Sasha strolls in for breakfast then goes upstairs. Shuffling is heard and she troops downstairs with the mouse straight outside and deposits dead mouse in the flower bed. She then sits by the open door.

4.45 Henry strolls into the garden and towards the door. Sasha then gives him a right earful for leaving his post on mouse watch. He is now sporting a scratched nose.

The domestic life of cats eh

That almost sounds harder work than teenagers! (And they don't bring me mice luckily:giggle:), just a huge pile of washing that they didn't help with and a similar sized pile of dishes!

My first attempt at some night photography, little camera, no tripod, no gloves.... it was a good frost again overnight!

The stars are simply amazing here. Can't recognise any of them yet, but the milky way actually appears to have milk in it and you can see why it got its name!
Those are really amazing pictures.
Is that what the Milky Way looks like, rather than a few more stars grouped together in a vague wavy line.

Nice pics @SatNavSaysStraightOn

For those struggling to see the Milky Way I can recommend Yorkshire as a good viewing spot. Seen it very clearly there several times (although not quite like Sat Nav's pics)
