The one in the centre of the shot then wandered over to another couple having a picnic and tried to make friends with their two dogs. The dogs were not impressed and looked very timid. The cattle are grazed on Beacon Hill as part of a land management scheme to maintain it as it has been for the last thousand years, they keep the bracken down and prevent trees establishing.

They're used on part of the Quantocks for the same reason. As you say, proper coos. (Though I also like Jerseys.)
