We visited the Orangutan sanctuary where orphaned, injured and displaced youngsters are brought to be raised and hopefully released. lots of cute, playful juveniles were to be seen uncaged. One walked past us barely three feet away, very exciting. We then travelled two and a half hours by speedboat deep into the rain forest to spend a couple of days out watching wildlife. On the first full day we set off in a small boat at dawn to catch nature waking up and breakfasting. The prize of course was to find an Orang. Soon we spotted a young female grumping high in a tree about 50m from the riverbank. That'll do I thought, mission accomplished, I've seen an Orangutan in the wild. Then we rounded a bend in a river and this magnificent chap was sat in a low tree only 20m away eating his breakfast. Several times he looked straight at me whilst he munched on his berries. Inside I was exploding with joy, even the guides said that this kind of encounter doesn't happen and they were amazed.
