Muppet Driver in Lancs

Just got send the following by someone from my cycle club - might be worth avoiding the driver in question!

"As I was cycling home tonight along Galgate flats a mindless, moronic idiot decided he would stick his arm out of the car window and hit me on my shoulder, fortunately I am not injured, just a little bit shocked. The car in question was a Ford Fiesta registration number N757 TFT. I have reported it to the Police and they have arrested the driver. Please be aware that this mindless individual maybe local to the area.
Unfortunately as I was unable to get a witness, he may get off with just a caution which means he will be back on the road so keep a lookout, he is obviously not blessed with brains!!"

Arm bar at the elbow joint then hit the breaks, that should dislocate his shoulder a little

But in practice most of us - certainly me - are too shocked.
It's not that we don't expect such behaviour around Galgate, just that we're too slow to react and the second has gone.
Well done pp for getting the number!

Good work Punky. I'm not in Lancs anymore but I'm pretty sure I have had a close call with that one before but couldn't remember the full plate for the police.

"N757TFT is NOT on the Motor Insurance Database today"

What a surprise

insurers have 7 days to supply policy details to MID, during this time a driver can be driving around insured but not be on MID

sometimes the messages go wrong between the insurers and MID, until this is discovered drivers can be driving around insured but not be on MID, this is the insurers fault not the policyholders

sometimes the messages go wrong between brokers and insurers. until this is discovered, the driver isn't insured but the broker would have to bear liability if the policyholder has paid the premium and the broker has supplied a certificate.

In other words, the fact that a car isn't on MID doesn't mean all that much. The most law abiding person in the country could be driving around in a vehicle unwittingly not on MID.

It wasn't me that it happened to, but just got an update:

"I have now heard back from the Police, the passenger has been issued with an £80 fixed penalty, the driver was not insured and has been fine £200 plus 6 points and the car impounded until the owner produces his documents. Although I was shaken and upset I am at least now feeling a bit of justice has been acheived. I have also reported the incident to the British Cycling Federation. Safe cycling to you all"

He got the reg number one letter wrong, so that would explain why it's not on the database...haven't quoted the right one in here as I was starting to worry what the legal situation for posting number plates is...However, I had a nosy myself with the right number plate, and it appears to be blue 3 door ford fiesta classic. (God, I'm sad - can't believe I felt I had to check that!)

It's all public domain. I could type the numberplate of any car down my road if I so wanted.

You would be ok but people running internet forums have been successfully sued for libel over unproven allegations.

That's different. The driver here has obviously been charged no insurance and the passenger with something else, rather than me just saying numberplate XXXXXX is a nut job raciest BNP supporting hit and run driver - when I have no idea.

having seen a lot of 'traffic cops' type programmes on telly, I'm amazed at the number of people who act like dicks when they are uninsured etc. So often, a car is pulled up for driver not wearing a seatbelt, or something very minor, and the checks show up the more serious stuff. If you want to get away with driving uninsured, I'd suggest exemplary behaviour at all times was the way...

Anyway, hoorah for the points and fine, assuming they make any difference to the twat's mindset.

Why was the passenger fined?

Did he admit it?

I always thought that it was the driver who got fined in cases like this- the same as if a passenger isn't wearing a seatbelt?
