I heard this on the radio today.

About time the CPS grew a pair and charged someone with murder rather than causing death by dangerous driving and well done to the judge for giving a sentence that reflects the seriousness of the crime. If only his previous motoring offences had been dealt with properly perhaps his victim would still be alive.

The "previous" list is shocking:
Richardson had previous convictions for 28 offences, with a “significant history” of driving-related crimes including careless driving and failure to stop or report an accident in 2011, driving with excess alcohol and driving whilst disqualified in 2012, and driving whilst disqualified and uninsured in 2013. In 2023, he had been convicted of driving without a licence and insurance.

Obviously the guy's assault convictions are more serious, but the driving ones are relevant to this discussion. There is no easy answer to stopping these people, but it has to be a discussion for the Powers That Be.

Some suggestions I've seen for making bans work:
- Curfews: they apply for the times they "need" the car (commute? family duties?)
- cut off their ghoulies [ (C) NTNON]
- limited classes of vehicle (works for motorbikes?)
- pile them high in prison, 4 to-a-bunk if needed, under supervision of Chief Jailer Drago
- something similar to the electronic ankle tags, but physically makes driving almost impossible!
