Just got in from my last test ride with all my gear on the bike (52kg), 22 miles in 2 hours 30 of moving time, i hit the biggest hills around, did 1600ft of ascents in that 22 miles, the steepest hill been around 150ft over 1/4 mile.

if i find water and food easily in, France , Spain and Portugal i will not carry as much unless i am going to of the beaten track for a few days, i have trained and per paired for the worst, this 2000mile is only a training run for something bigger

olldleggs my ferry is on the 6th from Portsmouth at 11am,,

My ferry time 8.15pm on Thursday 9th overnight Portsmouth/St Malo.

Again best of luck and have safe and enjoyable time Andy.

Best of Luck with your adventure, you will find it a good experaince. However, for me I would find the wieght your kit a tad to heavy, I am lucky if I can get mine much over the 15 kgs.

I would say and I am in no way trying to discourage you in anyway, but hauling that wieght around Day after day, will become quite a chore, as the hills and heats can quickly sap your strength.

France, spain and Portugal are quite modern countries, and buying day to day requirements (Bottled water, batteries) etc. do not present too much of a problem.

Finally welcome to the world of the long distance cycle tourist.
