@Andrew_Culture, you might find this article interesting reading (if you can get over the fact that it's in the Daily Wail)

Apparently 25% of top 100 Kindle books on Amazon are now written by independent authors who self-publish. In other words, people like you!:bravo:

Thanks. I've found the whole process very encouraging. I was chatting to @swee'pea99 about the fact 1500 copies of my full length novel were downloaded during a freebie promotion. I mildly lamented that sales have not continued so excitingly now folk have to pay for the book, but I had to take a moment to acknowledge that it's astonishing that so many people have my words in their hands!

Cheers for the heads up.... (will probably download it whilst free sorry.....) I am still reading your first novel, Mrs V keeps finding me things to do.....

I'd Love to try them Andrew, but I have a non Kindle e-reader. The Samsung tablet I have could do Kindle, but the screen is far too reflective for comfortable book reading.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I have been spoilt by the beautiful non reflective screen of a sony e-reader. Nothing is as good as a proper e-reader, and after about 10 minutes on the Samsung I can't cope with the reflection whereas I can comfortably read on the sony for a couple of hours or more.

Try sitting without any light sources behind you. My Samsung Galaxy tab has a very reflective screen so when I am using it I usually turn off the lamp which is behind my right shoulder. No problem then ...

Surely you use the Samsung for more than 10 minutes at a time when you are on CycleChat or visiting other websites?

I do use for more than 10 minutes at a time then, but it isn't the same kind of intense reading that I do when reading a book.

I have to say that I completely gave up trying to use the Tab outdoors in the summer! The screen can be turned up so bright that it hurts my eyes indoors, but in sunshine it is unusable - too dim and a mass of reflections.
