You say the fire brigade had to 'rescue the tenant out of the balcony window' last night.

This should automatically spark (sorry) a joint police/fire brigade arson investigation.

Either service should be able to confirm this for you.
yep cops were there, and forensics. surely now they have to evict him??

Surely the guy will be locked up pending a court date?
the problem is not proof it was him or his mates. he basically left ages ago, the council know it's just a drugs den, yet refuse to take the place back (saying they can't prove abandonment because he comes back occasionally) and refused to change the lock knowing that some of his druggie mates have got keys (we know they have because they come and go all night long keeping everyone awake).

The fire damage is underneath the stairs, the whole of the communal hallways is badly smoke damaged, and smoke has seeped in to my property and the other peoples properties.

Eviction is a civil matter, separate to the criminal process.

In other words, the cops nick the arsonist, the landlord evicts him.

We none of us know what evidence was gathered last night, but proving who - or what - started this fire may be difficult.

You say it's a drugs den which means all manner of (unknown) people may have been in and out of the place.

Pushing for an eviction might be your best bet because the local authority don't need a criminal conviction to do it.

Elections in May, why not see all your local councillors & if posssible get to see all who may be standing. Electoral services will have names, but invite the major parties, in your area, round to see for themselves.
Make sure that they know you've invited the others & if you're involving the press, make certain to point out that their abscence will be noted by all who do attend.
Get as many others who have been affected by this latest incident and set up a "press conference". Inviting all the above to attend. If you do involve the press, make certain to point out the fact that the only way out for one person was to await rescue in a building on fire because the only escape route was blocked.
Shock tactics, but they can work.
You should not have to put up with this.

Time to get your redecorated with the insurance money, I must admit I feel sad for anyone who has to suffer neighbours like this.

not a lot! which is why i'll be plonking my ass in their reception tomorrow.
Thats shocking. I think you're right to get legal advice to try and get the authorities to take this seriously.

Are there any other neighbours affected who you could talk to who you could get together with to speak to your councillor/MP etc?

Just remember to tell those you're inviting, who else you've invited.
If you can find out whose seat on the council is up for grabs this time, make sure to invite them. They may not want to turn up, but will have no real say in the matter.
If you get the local press involved, make sure you point out who you invited and who actually turned up.

Zovirax will clear them by Thursday
unfortunately my experience of zovirax is that it just reroutes the problem and they come back with a vengeance. I have at times looked like the elephant man for weeks on end. If i let them run their course they go to sleep for a few years. I do admit though that i have applied it to my nose today coz when they take hold there its really bad. To top feeling shoot i now have a water infection too and i know its stress related. So now I'll have to go to docs and I'm gonna tell her how stressed i am.

Sorry to hear about your problems @buggi he sounds like a right f******g nut job.

Sadly I have lived in places when people like that have been there, luckily there were always bigger people around who "moved them on" and no one actually tried to burn a building down while I was in it.

Hope you manage to get rid of him.
