after 23,000 miles. Eh?
I'm using XTR V- brakes onto Mavic 717 black ceramic rims.
I've not changed brake blocks or done any toeing-in recently. Tried all that initially and nothing worked.

So, if your brakes squeal, simply wait three years and/or do 23,000 miles: it worked for me!

The easy solution is not to go higher than LX in the shimano v brake range. The parallel-push mechanism is notorious for this (xt is the same). I guarantee that LX's with coolstop salmons would be cheaper, lighter and outbrake your set-up.

That's as maybe.
I did not intend this post to be a technical discussion on the merits of different brake/brake block/ rim combinations, but merely a light-hearted celebration of the fact that people within a radius of 100 yards will no longer have any forewarning that I'm slowing down!

;)

I can only assume you must have worn down the brake blocks enough that some vital bit of rubber that caused the squealing is now gone. 23,000 miles is pretty good going for MTB rims.
