There is truth in that, but its also worth bearing in mind
life. How long does it take you to commute that distance each day?
My reckoning is that for some people who work long hours - maybe longer than you, or maybe slightly more unsociable - and have family they want to see in the morning before they go or want to maximise time at home with them, then such a time on the bike isn't so achievable.
I ride 10 miles each way. I work a normal 9 - 5, and I don't have kids. Frankly I
could ride further, but I wouldn't want to on a day to day basis. I like getting home to the wife at a reasonable time. I like having the time to cook, and I like not leaving home at some ungodly hour.
People are different, and for some my quirks won't matter so much... but for others they just might.
