The congestion charge doesn't cost lives, where as the Motorcycle in buslane policy could!!

That would depend on how you view it. The roads around the zone 'have' seen increased numbers and as such the risks to those who use them 'have' logically risen.

Saw a high powered motorbike "undertake" a fast moving competent cyclist in primary in the bus lane around Brixton this morning. He couldn't get past on the right as the traffic prevented this so hey why not just undertake:angry:

Agree that motorbikes do treat London Bridge as a drag strip. Most motorcyclists won't be able to tell the difference between red route and borough controlled route and will ride regardless in bus lanes throughout London once the word gets round in the motorcycling press.

My points entirely and as I pointed out in my e-mail, how is this going to be policed??

I don't think that any responsible rider would advocate this sort of behaviour, but to judge the group on the actions of the few is fairly harsh in the way RLJing is wrongly attributed to cyclists as a whole.

don't forget Linf, cyclists good, anything with an engine, bad. it's like 1984 all over again

I think you mean Animal Farm. And come on, it's a crap analogy anyway. Bicycles are measurably environmentally better than cars, walking even more so. Driving wherever you want was not a fundamental human right last time I checked.

I agree, everybody of a certain community whether it is cyclists, motorcyclists or car drivers should not be tarnished with the same brush, but the my point is how will this situation be policed and the law breakers penalised, just like RLJ cyclists should be penalised as well!!

An initiative is being introduced and I have simply asked, how they came to the conlcusions that this initiative will reduce congestion, how will it be monitored and how it will be policed.

Agree in principle, but... I'm frequently overtaken really closely on this A23 red route bus lane by fast moving big motorbikes and silly scooters. If my experience of overtaking and sometimes undertaking motorcylces was different I wouldn't be posting about how hazardous they are. I'm an experienced cyclist (albeit on a slow bike in London) and have ridden motorbikes for many years so I am aware of both sides but buzzing cyclists in bus lanes was never something I did legally or illegally. It's unnecessary, selfish and reckless.

There's no need for motorbikes in bus lanes as they can filter on the outside which is much safer for them as they're not expected by motorists to be undertaking at speed on the inside lane.

Motorcyles don't cause congestion so how is allowing them in bus lanes easing congestion? If allowing motorbikes in bus lanes encourages idiot car drivers to get on motorbikes and ride them just as badly then that's a sad thing. Many of them must have observed the filtering motorbikes do and think they can do it too without having the slightest notion of how to do it safely and with consideration for other road users.

Of course it goes without saying that not all motorcylists ride like this, I didn't for starters.

The logical conclusion is that the commuters who normally drive in from a distance which they wouldn't consider cycling, will look to use a PTW if they consider a journey safer by having access to bus lanes. This will result in less cars on the road and thus reduce congestion.

One will assume they will use temporary cameras on poles above the lanes from time to time as well as monitors on the ground to assess the effectiveness of it and the impact upon others.

See above ^

His manifesto pledge was to get the city traffic moving. He sees m/cycles/scoots as part of the plan to reduce reliance on cars in an urban environment.

Idiot drivers use all forms of transport. Would you be happier having them all on cycles instead and really blotting the copy book for the rest of us ?

Errrm yes. At least they'd have much less potential to hurt other road users, however idiotic they may be....
