I've just spent the last few days working on my letter and handmade cards. I'm a fan of the letters, gives a chance to catch up on news, in fact I'm always disappointed not to receive one in a card (yes I know I should actually ring and talk to all these friends instead). We usually try to make sure ours are funny rather than boastful. (Thinking about it I think we've been sending them for nearly 20 years now!!!). What is worse I feel guilty that it's a letter to everyone so then I have to write a short note in each card too!!!

Now I just need to take out a loan for the stamps and then I can send them!!!

I feckin' hate round robin Christmas letters... I wouldn't mind so much if they came from the most interesting ones of my rellies/friends, but they don't. We normally just get two, one is OK I suppose if I'm feeling generous and forgiving, the other is full of the most self-righteous, god-fearing, offspring-bigging-upping bilge, and I quite literally  vomit for three days non-stop when it comes through the door. Hey, your son is now 48... he doesn't need you to tell the world how clever he (thinks he) is, or how Tarquin and Jemima are doing at prep school, or how his wife continues to perfect her tapestry skills. Go away.

I'm going to send one round full of smutty jokes, and put a few downright lies in there, like "I was happy to win £6 million on the lottery this year, and am writing this on my helicopter, flying over Corsica". Or put "I have cycled over 3,000 miles this year... my favourite tyre continues to be... while my chain lube of choice is ... blah blah blah.
But I simply can't be @rsed. Because I have a conscience. Unlike the self-important pillocks who continue to send round this lazy guff.*

Rant over. Move along there please. As you were.

*[edit: apart from Mrs Rikki, and Summerdays, of course... I'm sure theirs are charming and elucidating]

Like a moth to a flame, I keep coming back to this thread. Just to vomit  (can't find vomit smiley, so laughing will do)

I thought @rich p 's correspondent was a middle-classier-than-thou type, but to claim to 'know' Jimmy Cricket after sitting next to him at an awards ceremony? Then going to see him in Eastbourne? Boasting about meeting Bobby Crush? Pur-leaze!!!
The letter writer has their Ailes de Poulet Provencales mixed up with Bingo wings.

Hmm... mine was more about just general family bits and the allotment - successes AND failures. I did mention seeing Bradley Wiggins (does that count as boasting?), but haven't reeled off a list of things that we have done. And I always put in a couple of photos too ... 2 of the photos even contain bikes.

Luckily my friends who send them to me have been well chosen so that they send interesting missives!!

Anyway first batch are now sitting in the postbox (and a few overseas ones sitting in the post office), awaiting the van to take them on their way.
