Hi,

I've decided to brave my first tour and get on the St Malo ferry and head south for a bit.

I'm meeting up with a family member who lives just outside the small town of Mauron which I'm told is just off one of the cycle routes that heads south out of St Malo.

This isn't as daunting a first tour as it my seem, as I'm hoping that Mauron from St Malo will be a relatively short first ride, which I've driven on a few occasions, in around an hour or so.
Up until this point, I'll be using public transport(train to Portsmouth from S Wales).

Upon arrival, I won't be loaded with camping gear. So my panniers will be stuffed with clothes... predominantly.

In Mauron I'll have a back up plan for accomodation with family!

Please can anyone offer any advice on finding the route out of St Malo and any other hints to tips?

So far, this is the only collateral I've managed to pick up, only having decided to do this trip yesterday

Thanks in advance !

You can get a closer look of that cycle route on the link below. In the top right you will see OSMycle, click and zoom into the area . It appears cycling route V42 starts from Dinard but runs to your destination after turning onto the V3

I took the ferry to St Malo recently. I don't know your route but would say is found getting out of St Malo frustrating.

With hindsight the thing to do is wait till most of the traffic has left the port - you and cars have to take the same road - which means you can find your route without the added hazards of drivers wanting to rush on holiday while you get used to cycling on the right and navigating a new place.

Thanks

I've taken a look....
It appears route v3 is the way to go in the first instance.
Note your comments about St Malo being frustrating....
Is the voire verte well signposted ?

Not in St Malo it isnt - get across to Dinard where it starts - either use the foot ferry from the St Malo harbour steps - or risk it for a biscuit on the main road across the barrage (not a nice road but not as bad as is made made out by some) - its not terribly easy to find the end of the VV but easier from the ferry and Im told it the signposting has improved since i used it

St Malo is no more or less difficult to get around/out of than anywhere else

I think from other threads on here there is a large barrage near St Malo with a new fast road built on it. I've never seen it but comments suggest it's busy and you need your wits about you.

If you put a search on it you'll find several references.

I cycled over the barrage and it was fine. Main road but not bad at all
