Not long got back from a nightmare holiday in France where I was involved in a bikerelated incident which has left me with a broken leg and a nice wound down my leg:

Cycling along a dedicated cyclepath in St Palais just outside Royan a guy just steps straight out infront of me and stops me dead in my tracks.
Tip
Always carry your EHIC travel card when out and about!

Never saw the guy again (I'm even assuming it was a guy)

It was a typical layout with a road running parallel to the cycle path and a footpath alongside the cycle path.
We were ambling along (I was towing our dogs in their trailer so wasn't going fast at all)
I was aware of the people around me (it is quite a busy seaside resort) and noticed the group of people ahead, next thing I know there is someone right in front of me and I am on the floor!

Must have fell awkward or hit the barrier that seperates the path and road but as soon as I sat up I knew my leg was broke as I was able to move my thigh but my foot wouldnt move
Ambulance arrived within minutes and I was whisked off to the local hospital where xrays and scans showed I need plates and screws in my leg and I also broke my back (fractured vertebrae)
Spent the next 7 days in hospital
still waiting for the bill to come (no insurance!)

That's very bad luck. I have cycled in Royan a few times and find it a tricky place - lots of holiday makers ambling around aimlessly trying to get to the beach and lost drivers. It was a bit flattened during WW2 and I find the road system and signage rather crap.

Get well soon!

Ouch, GWS!

I hope you heal quickly and look on the bright side............ Chicks dig scars

I read your account on another forum we both frequent and really hope you got sorted.
