Once a courier left a note saying that my parcel had been left in a safe place, by the back door. Odd, I thought, there's no access to the back door. I checked around the back gate but there was nothing there, then realised that he must have thrown it over the wall. I ran to check the bloody big pond we have in our garden, right by the wall, but couldn't see a floating Amazon parcel, or indeed a sunken one. As a last resort, I got the ladder out - it was on the roof of the shed.
We have a similar issue - normally I have parcels delivered to work - couriers quite frequently don't want to or can't find our house or leave a parcel at the gate 1/2 mile from our house on a public road, but from time to time, if it is a big or heavy parcel I will post them directly home instead of work.
Just before I went on holiday in June, I took delivery of a 45kg box (I knew it would be large and heavy). I had addressed it to home, but the courier driver, knowing where I work and it being on his route thought he would be helpful and delivered it to work instead. The result was that I ended up cycling home to pick up the car, so I could collect the parcel from work!
