We don't call them smoke detectors here, they are called "Mum's cooking sausages again". It doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easily but it is no less accurate for that.

Reminds me, though, I haven't had brekkie yet.

The smoke detector is a problem - for the dog. Now she runs off before the detector has even sounded.

There should be a 'toast/ sausage/ pancake bypass' button on smoke detectors!
We sometimes can smell toast upstairs in our house even when no-one has been making any... the smell is so familiar and strong that I used to get up thinking one of the children was downstairs making some... odd!
