Good afternoon, all.
After having had my trusty Triban 5a since last Spring when they were first released, I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to a better bike. I initially bought the Triban to see if I enjoyed road riding and very quickly decided that I did! Had been thinking about an Alur 700 in April or so of this year, but supply delays and then disappointment when I actually saw one in the flesh turned me off the idea. I'd always liked the look of the 2014 Cube Peloton Race and had planned to try and pick up one up in September or so when the 2015 range was announced and the 2014 bikes went on sale. It has an alloy frame with internal cable routing, carbon fork, a full 10 speed 105 groupset and Mavic Aksium wheels, all for only £999. However, I happened across a barely used frameset on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. The seller had bought it new in June, commuted on it for a month and then had the chance of a carbon frame, so he switched his components across onto it. The frame had not a mark on it and was a 'Buy it Now' for only £220.00. After a few minutes thinking about it, the frame was mine! I then got a full 11 speed 5800 105 groupset from Ribble for only £299, then added a Deda Zero 2 stem and Zero 100 bars and seatpost. I had planned to use my existing Specialized Romin Evo Expert saddle and the Mavic Aksium wheels off the Triban, but to my great surprise I was left some money in my late grandfathers cousins will, so ordered a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elite S wheels - gorgeous!
Had the bike built up by a pro mechanic mate and collected it at the weekend. Have been out on it twice since and am absolutely loving it, although I'm going to get the steerer tube cut down a bit. He'd left it uncut, but the position is a wee bit too tall for me.
